Plans submitted for new 'gateway' garden centre off A9 at Dunblane

Developers are planning a ‘gateway’ garden centre with a range of facilities by the north Dunblane junction of the A9.

Mo-lawn and Kippendavie Group Trust have submitted a Proposal of Application Notice for ‘The Victoria Park Rural Hub’.

It comprises a garden centre including plant sales, restaurant, craft workshop and rural larder.

A fuel station, including electric vehicle charging points and car park is also part of the scheme – as well as an extension to the Sheriffmuir Heritage Trail and landscaping.

Mo-lawn currently operate an outlet at Stockbridge off the A820 Doune Road.

A statement issued by Mo-lawn and the Kippendavie Group Trust said: “Responding to customer enquiries, Mo-Lawn are exploring the potential to expand their existing business with a garden centre and rural craft and larder space on a new site in Dunblane.

“Mo-Lawn’s existing site at Stockbridge, which they have operated for 30 years, has become too tight and restricted to meet customers’ requirements and support local businesses.

“The new site at Lady’s Mount is ideally situated to accommodate the expansion of the Mo-Lawn business, whilst also presenting the opportunity to host and provide a range of local services, including an extension of the Sheriffmuir Heritage Trail through a new multi-use footpath and cycleway, an electric vehicle charging and car share club as an ‘EV hub’alongside a small fuel station for local use.”

The developers also pointed out that the site could also provide a hub for consolidating deliveries and returns with the growth of parcel delivery services as well as a site for the collection and recycling of cardboard.

The statement continued: “The opportunity also exists at this ‘gateway’ entrance to Dunblane to showcase town centre businesses and events.

“Working with the local landowner Kippendavie Group Trust, Mo-Lawn we are very keen to explore wider public views on these ideas to help inform the detailed design process alongside the scope for technical and environmental assessments.

“They therefore submitted a Proposal of Application Notice (PAN 2022-001) to provide a structure for public engagement and consultation which will include online and hopefully, but subject to Covid procedures, face-to-face consultation and exhibitions.

“The central aim of the project is to invest in local infrastructure and amenities alongside supporting local businesses.”

Mo-Lawn and Kippendavie Group Trust said they welcome feedback and can be contacted at enquiries@molawn.com, www.molawn.com or Kippendavie Projects on Facebook.
