A scheme to build a new recycling centre in Cotgrave has been withdrawn at the 11th hour, just before councillors were due to approve £2.5 million in funding.
The scheme is still likely to go ahead, and a decision on funding is now expected next month rather than yesterday (Thursday, September 3).
Withdrawing a paper at the last minute is relatively unusual, and the reasons for the withdrawal aren’t entirely clear.
The chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council's Communities and Place committee, which was due to approve the funding, announced just before the item was meant to be discussed that he was withdrawing the report which councillors would have approved, because parts were ‘not correct’.
It was not specified which parts of the report were not correct.
As a result, there was no debate about the project, and no funding has been committed.
However Councillor John Cottee said the report would be amended and brought back to the same committee next month (Thursday, October 1).
The scheme is designed to take pressure off the West Bridgford tip, which will remain open.
A detailed planning application is yet to be submitted, and will still need to be approved by the county council and the borough council.
In withdrawing the plans, Councillor Cottee said: “Item 10 (the recycling centre) I’ve withdrawn that paper. I’ve got to have a look at some of the information that’s in it. It’s not correct. I need to make sure that when it comes back next month that it is correct.”
Ordinarily minor errors in other reports can be corrected while the meeting is ongoing.
The details in the plan that was withdrawn show the tip will be built on county council-owned land off Hollygate Lane, near Cotgrave Country Park.
It is formerly part of the Cotgrave Colliery tip site but is currently used as grazing land.
The site would be screened from Hollygate Lane by an existing and substantial hedge, the Conservative-controlled Nottinghamshire County Council says.
