Plans for abandoned Edinburgh shop to become Ladbrokes betting office submitted

An abandoned store in the centre of Edinburgh could be converted into a new betting office.

In a proposed change of use application submitted this week by the Ladbrokes Betting & Gaming company, the empty store on Hanover Street could be transformed.

The shop at number 50-52 on the street in the capital, has been vacant since February 2020.

The application is seeking to relocate a current Ladbrokes betting store on Rose Street to a new address on Hanover Street.

According to the submission: "The existing betting office on Rose Street is cramped and no longer meets the standards of comfort and fit out expected by today’s customers and employees.

"The proposed new unit would operate under Ladbrokes digi-hub concept, which offers a high quality fit out and fully digitised betting services."

Proposed opening hours for the store would be from 8am until 10pm from Monday to Sunday, as per trading hours of the existing Rose Street location.

The Rose Street store would close, meaning that this proposal is not leading to an increase in betting offices in the city centre.

The application will now be considered by planning officers. You can view the plans here.
