Planning Holi bash? Keep Covid SOPs on top of your list: Experts

BHOPAL: Greet from a distance, avoid embrace this Holi, say experts considering the implications in context of Covid-19.

There are hardly 597 active cases in the state, almost all the restrictions have been lifted, but ahead of festive season people should not let their guards down.

Coincidentally, all the past three waves have started during this time of year, ie, March-April. Experts say environment has no major co-relation with Covid-19.

“Weather has not co-relation with the spread of covid-19, it has simultaneously affected countries with different weather conditions. And now there have been many studies, which say that environment is not a major contributor in spread”, says former director of AIIMS, Bhopal, professor Dr Sarman Singh.

“There could be some possibility of a new variant of delta and omicron. People should avoid close contact like embracing while celebrating festival. Like if in a group of 1,000 no one is positive then it is not an issue. But how to identify such, those who have any sort of symptom, they should isolated themselves avoid celebrations and get themselves tested”, Singh said.

Besides, sticking to the covid-19 appropriate behaviour there is no other option, though few but still there are active patients.

“It is not completely over yet, though very less still there are active cases. Instead of close contact people should stick to ‘namaste’ from a distance during this Holi”, chief medical and health officer, Bhopal, Dr Prabhakar Tiwari told TOI.

“There are identified active cases, which are already identified and are known but given to the asymptomatic cases, it is difficult to identity those who have not been tested. Thus anyone who is having any symptom should responsibly isolated themselves and get themselves tested”, he added.
