Plane passengers come to rescue of dad who didn't want to miss daughters' dance

The incredible gesture of a plane full of strangers to help one dad fulfil a promise to his twin daughters has warmed the hearts of hundreds of thousands of people on social media.

Travellers are renowned for their selfish ways and it's never more apparent than when the plane touches down, truly becoming every man, woman and child for themselves.

But a passenger on an American Airlines flight from Nashville to Charlotte took to social media to share a story making us doubt everything we thought we knew, gaining more than 445,000 likes in the process.

Jenny Hale tweeted to say: "I’m on a plane and the entire flight sat still so that a man in the last seat at the back of the plane could get off and run to his next flight to try to make it to his twin daughters’ first father daughter dance.

"Everyone rooted him on and clapped as he rushed down the aisle."

As the touching show of solidarity went viral, the 'didn't happen' brigade came out in full force to argue that the story had obviously been made up because, apparently, nothing funny or sweet can ever really have happened unless they personally witnessed it.

But then the story took another incredible turn, putting a swift end to the doubters.

The post had been so widely shared that it had come to the attention of the dad himself, who answered the thousands of people who were wondering if he ever made it.

He also revealed the whole thing had come about thanks to a kind-hearted flight attendant - and the cooperation of a few hundred fellow flyers.

Mike Good popped up on Twitter, sharing an adorable photo of him and his children at the dance, and wrote: "My neighbor stumbled across your tweet in his feed today.

"Yes, I was 50 minutes late - but made it to Emily & Lucy’s dance. Thanks to everyone, and really to the flight attendant - I never asked, it was all her!

"Surprising acts of kindness are everywhere."

Delighted to have found Mike, and to have been proved right in the process, Jenny replied: "Aw, this makes up for all the haters. Thanks for thinking of me.

"I really just worry for them & wish they believed in good things. Maybe this tweet thread will prove to them that there are lots of good people out there."

Kindness 1-0 haters.
