Plane makes emergency landing after woman threatens to blow herself up

S7 passenger claimed to have explosive device ( Domodedovo Airport )

A plane has made an emergency landing after a woman onboard stood up and threatened to blow herself up.

The S7 Airlines flight was en route from Simferopol in Crimea to the Russian capital Moscow on Thursday 30 January when the incident occurred, according to Reuters.

Police escorted the unnamed passenger from the aircraft after it landed at Moscow’s Domodedovo airport.

S7 reported that the woman had stood in the aisle and claimed to have an explosive device.

However, police have since confirmed that no device was found on her.

The Independent has contacted S7 for comment.

It follows an American woman allegedly claiming to have a bomb in her checked luggage after she arrived at the gate too late to catch her flight earlier this month.

The passenger was attempting to board an American Airlines flight from Phoenix, Arizona to Salt Lake City, Utah.

She allegedly mentioned an explosive device when staff refused to let her through, resulting in the bomb squad being called and part of one concourse being evacuated.

However, no device was found, and she was arrested on suspicion of false emergency reporting and making a false terrorism report.
