Pizza delivery man slashed in stomach by robbery gang

A pizza delivery man was slashed in the stomach after he bravely fought off a masked gang during a "terrifying" attempted robbery.

The appalling attack happened moments after the victim, a man in his 50s, had dropped off a pizza on the Firbeck estate in Skelmersdale .

Lancashire Police has now launched a witness appeal after confirming the driver was left with a slash wound to his abdomen when a knife was thrust at him as the three men made demands for money.

The ugly scenes happened at around 9.20pm on Good Friday, April 19.

The brave driver who escaped with what police termed a "minor cut" managed to fend off his three attackers who fled empty handed in the direction of the Gleeson Building.

Trashed BMW and van arson could be linked to Halewood shooting

Police described the gang as "white men who were dressed in dark clothing and had their faces covered".

DC Michael Mason of Skelmersdale Police said: “This has been a terrifying situation for the delivery man who was simply doing his job.

"Luckily he wasn’t seriously hurt, but this could have been much worse. "

He added: “We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and speak to us as soon as possible.”
