Pixies at Leeds O2 Academy review, setlist, photos and more

The legendary Pixies were mobbed by adoring fans during their epic 38-song set at Leeds O2 Academy.

Despite being treated to more songs than an average gig the Tuesday night crowd would still have taken a few extra - they were enjoying the occasion so much.

Black Francis and his influential band are soaked in indie, rock and grunge folklore with the Boston group acknowledged to have inspired a generation of artists. Nirvana, Radiohead and Smashing Pumpkins are just some of the known Pixies disciples.

The packed O2 was treated to a thunderously rousing reminder of just why as the American rockers showed us just how good they are.

Instrumentally, the Pixies were effortlessly tight with it all looking all so easy while Francis had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand.

He said little to the audience but, at the risk of being cheesy, his lyrics being belted out at such a memorable setting said more than a few mere pleasantries.

In a set brimming with so many hits it's tricky to mention just a few highlights but Where is My Mind? and Nimrod’s Son were worth the ticket price alone.

Although, anthem of many indie nights, Here Comes Your Man, was a personal highlight. It resonated with the fans too who bounced up and down on the O2’s lower floor repeating the chorus.

As things got a bit more rocky on stage the masses chucked the last ebbs of their pints in the air - influenced in no small part by David Lovering’s awesome drumming. Undeniably, his style is very reminiscent of Joy Division’s Stephen Morris.

At the end of a wonderfully memorable night at the O2, Lovering and frontman Francis, were the main perpetrators in ensuring we left with one last treat as they dragged the band back on stage for the encore of Daniel Boone.

Hopefully, we get to see them here again in the near future.
