Pistons lose 3rd straight, crushed by Raptors, 123-94

TORONTO _ The bench didn't cost the Detroit Pistons on Monday night.

But it didn't matter against the Toronto Raptors, the best team in the Eastern Conference.

The Raptors ran away in the third quarter to take a 123-94 victory, the Pistons' sixth loss in seven games.

In the power forward matchup, the Raptors' Serge Ibaka thoroughly outplayed Blake Griffin.

Ibaka scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds against Griffin's 12 points and five assists.

The Raptors (42-17) made 17 3-pointers in the rout. It's the third game in a row the Pistons have allowed at least 16 long balls.

The Pistons have been outscored by an average of 19 points in three losses since the NBA All-Star break.

The Pistons (28-32) fall to three games behind the Miami Heat for the Eastern Conference's eighth and final play spot.

Andre Drummond finished with 18 points, 18 rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots.

DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry scored 20 points each to lead the Raptors.

Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy relented and benched struggling veteran Jameer Nelson, replacing him with Dwight Buycks at backup point guard.

And Buycks immediately helped.

He found Drummond for a baseline jump hook, cutting the Raptors lead to 27-23 with 30.3 seconds left in the first quarter.

And his 3-pointer with 1.1 seconds left in the quarter cut the deficit to 30-26 going into the second quarter.

Buycks finished with 12 points (3-for-11 shooting), four rebounds and four assists in 18 minutes.

Van Gundy turned to rookie shooting guard Luke Kennard after benching him in Sunday loss at Charlotte.

Before the game, Van Gundy indicated he would stop the back and forth between Kennard and Galloway.

Both players are struggling and Van Gundy admitted they could be looking over their shoulders.

"I think they both have the feeling that they've got to make shots to stay on the floor and it's hard to play that way," Van Gundy said. "I have to find one of them and go with one of them on a consistent basis. I've exacerbated their struggles a little bit."

Kennard finished scoreless on 0-for-4 shooting.

Kennard was scoreless (0-for-4 shooting) in 15 minutes against Toronto.

Galloway played the game's final four minutes.
