Piper belts out Scotland the Brave as SSE Hydro vaccination centre shuts for final time

A piper belted out Scotland the Brave as the Hydro Covid vaccination centre closed for the final time today.

The huge venue has the capacity to administer up to 10,000 jabs per day, but is no longer needed.

The concert hall has played a critical role in the fight against Covid-19 after forming as part of the NHS Louisa Jordan hospital, which closed at the end of March.

But now health bosses have announced the Glasgow facility was no longer needed thanks to the continued efforts of the public.

A piper marched down the venue as NHS staff cheered and clapped as they celebrated the milestone.

Nicola Sturgeon hailed the success and thanked everyone for their 'outstanding work'.

Taking to social media the First Minister welcomed the Hydro being 'handed back' at last.

Nicola Sturgeon tweeted: "Thank you all for your outstanding work.

"As Hydro is handed back, the vaccination work continues in centres across Greater Glasgow and Clyde."

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde tweeted: "What a way to say goodbye!

"Our amazing NHSGGC staff mark the end of vaccinations at the Hydro.

"But remember, we and our partners will be back tomorrow and every day at drop-clinics across NHSGGC.

"So come along and get protected!"
