Pink seesaws straddling either side of US-Mexico border installed to 'unite kids'

Seesaws have been installed on the US-Mexico border to unite children from both countries.

Three bright pink seesaws were placed on both sides of the border fence at Sunland Park, New Mexico, and Ciudad Juárez in Mexico on Sunday.

Heartwarming footage shows children and adults playing on the equipment and looking at each other through slats which have been created in the wall.

Ronald Rael, an architecture professor at the University of  California and San Jose State design associate professor Virginia San Fratello devised the scheme.

The installation of the play equipment comes as Donald Trump puts together plans to build a wall along the border.

Mr Rael said in an Instagram post in which he shared picture of the seesaws: "The wall became a literal fulcrum for the US-Mexico relations, and adults were connected in meaningful ways on both sides with the recognition that the actions that take place on one side have a direct consequence on the other side."

One of the snaps shared by Rael shows a landscape of the area.

The project was first though of in 2009, when the pair produced designs for the scheme.

Video of the seesaw project has been widely shared on social media.

The scheme has been described as a "beautiful reminder of the connection we share as humans, regardless of the borderlines drawn between us".

Mexican TV star Mauricio Martíne said in a tweet: "What happens on one side impacts the other.'
