Piers Morgan takes swipe at Meghan and Harry as he stands up for Jeremy Clarkson

Piers Morgan jumped to Jeremy Clarkson's defence after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle responded to his apology.

Top Gear star Jeremy has been under fire in recent weeks after posting an abhorrent rant which saw him write that he "hated" the former Suits actress "on a cellular level" and wanted to see her "paraded naked through the streets".

After receiving backlash from the public and MPs for the controversial column, he issued a lengthy statement shared on his Instagram page.

The former Top Gear host said he was "really is sorry" for what he said in the controversial column – all the way "from the balls of my feet to the follicles on my head"- and claimed he contacted the couple.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex responded to the apology and denied he reached out to Meghan – claiming he contacted Harry alone.

Harry and Meghan also called out 'his long-standing pattern of writing articles that spread hate rhetoric, dangerous conspiracy theories, and misogyny.'

Following the release of the couple's statement, a miffed Piers took to his social media to defend Jeremy.

The former Good Morning Britain star tweeted: "One lesson from this Clarkson saga is that King Charles and Prince William should definitely now apologise to Hypocrite Harry & Princess Pinocchio - so they can publicly reject it and attack them all over again."

Piers is known to rant about the couple and even stormed off the set of Good Morning Britain because of it.

After Jeremy apologised for his 'misogynistic' column, the Duke and Duchess responded: "On December 25, 2022, Mr. Clarkson wrote solely to Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex.

"The contents of his correspondence were marked Private and Confidential.

"While a new public apology has been issued today by Mr. Clarkson, what remained to be addressed is his long-standing pattern of writing articles that spread hate rhetoric, dangerous conspiracy theories, and misogyny."

It adds: "Unless each of his other pieces were also written "in a hurry", as he states, it is clear that this is not an isolated incident shared in haste, but rather a series of articles shared in hate."

The backlash was sparked after Jeremy wrote in The Sun last month he "dreams of people throwing lumps of excrement at her" in the insensitive spew of hatred towards Meghan – who he has never met – in a now-deleted column.

The Independent Press Standards Organisation received more than 20,000 complaints about the piece, becoming the most complained about article ever.
