Piers Morgan's return date to Good Morning Britain as he announces long break

Piers Morgan has announced that he is taking a break from Good Morning Britain.

The controversial host, 55, has revealed that Wednesday's episode of the ITV chat show will be his last day for a while.

Every summer Piers goes on an extended summer break from GMB, which usually starts from around July and finishes in September.

His co-host Susanna Reid is also taking a long break throughout the summer months and her last day will also be on Wednesday.

The duo are usually covered by an array of different TV presenters, including Kate Garraway, Ben Shepherd and Ranvir Singh.

Piers announced his temporary departure from the show when he confirmed he and Susanna would be interviewing Kate before heading off for the summer.

Kate has been off GMB for months after her husband Derek Draper caught coronavirus back in March.

Derek has just woken from his coma after being put in intensive care.

Piers didn't specify the exact date he would be returning to GMB.

But he said he and Susanna would be "off for the summer".

He explained: "We're going to talk to Kate on Wednesday before we go off for the summer.

"She's going to have something more to say about this but it's certainly premature at the moment to think that Derek isn't in any way out of the woods, sadly, on this and he remains in a very serious critical condition."

Mirror Online has contacted ITV for comment.

*Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV
