Piers Morgan makes heartbreaking admission about Kate Garraway husband's Covid battle

Piers Morgan has made a heartbreaking admission about Kate Garraway' husband's battle with coronavirus.

Good Morning Britain anchor Kate and her family have had a traumatic time over the past year after former Labour aide Derek was taken into hospital with symptoms of Covid-19 back in March.

His condition quickly worsened and he was put in a medically induced coma by doctors, leaving Kate and the couple's children Billy and Darcy feeling helpless at home as they were unable to visit him.

Derek remains in hospital, with Kate and the kids getting to see him together for the first time over Christmas.

Last week, Kate herself said Derek's battle was 'far from over' and, talking about how important it is that Brits get the coronavirus vaccine as soon as they are offered it, Piers spoke about Derek.

He said: "I know people who've lost parents, who've lost uncles, family members; it's devastating.

"When I see these people, these Covid deniers, down players who constantly want to talk it down, saying 'oh it's just another flu'....it's all around now, ask enough people."

Co-host Susanna Reid remarked: "It's getting closer," to which Piers replied: "We know from our colleague Kate Garraway whose husband Derek is still in a coma from Covid; he may never come out of that coma.

"She's been told that. It's heartbreaking.

"It's hit right here on the show. It's hit a lot of people now; 100,000 or more have lost their lives."

Issuing a plea to viewers to stay vigilant, he ended:"Think about their family members, multiply that and we're getting into millions of people directly affected by Covid-19.

"You've got to take this seriously and you've got to get the vaccine as fast as possible."
