Piers Morgan hints he could run for Prime Minister: ‘It’s time to get tough and end the woke madness’

Piers Morgan believes he could be the one to fix Britain’s problems, saying it’s “time to get tough” and calling for an end to what he describes as “woke madness”.

The veteran broadcaster, 60, said the country needs “a leader who isn’t afraid to say what everyone else is thinking” as he teased the idea of a “PM for PM” campaign — Piers Morgan for Prime Minister.

“There’s been talk about ‘PM for PM’ – Piers Morgan for Prime Minister. Why not?” he said. “Right now, there are a lot of people in this country who feel betrayed by successive governments, whether it’s over the NHS, stopping the boats or the state of the roads.”

Outlining what his manifesto might look like, Morgan proposed a “one per cent tax on income that would go straight to the NHS,” and said he would take a much tougher stance with France over Channel crossings.

“Taking a leaf out of Trump’s book, I would call President Macron and tell him that unless he did something about the boats, we would tax French imports by 1,000 per cent,” he said.

“It’s time to get tough!” he added in an interview with the November issue of Saga Magazine.

Piers Morgan also doubled down on his criticism of ‘woke culture’ (PA Media)

Morgan, 60, also took the time to double down on his criticism of “woke culture”, ahead of the release of his forthcoming book Woke Is Dead.

“Woke is on its last legs and I’m hoping my new book, Woke Is Dead, will be the final death knell,” he told the publication. “For a few years now, we’ve been told that black is white, green is blue, men are women… and ordinary people have had enough.”

The former Good Morning Britain host left TalkTV in early 2024, taking his show Piers Morgan Uncensored exclusively to YouTube, saying traditional television had become “an increasingly unnecessary straitjacket”.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Morgan showed his softer side and trademark humour when reflecting on his marriage to journalist Celia Walden.

“Celia and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary this year. She didn’t remember. When I reminded her, she said, ‘Serial killers get less than that!’” he laughed.
