Piers Morgan demands to know 'biggest mistake' Archbishop of Canterbury has ever made

Good Morning Britain 's Piers Morgan made a bizarre request to the Archbishop of Canterbury on Tuesday's show as he demanded to know the biggest mistake he had ever made.

The Most Revd Justin Welby refused to condemn the government's mishandling of the pandemic after being goaded by Piers, instead saying that everyone makes mistakes.

He told Piers and Susanna Reid: "We are human, everyone makes mistakes, there will be an enquiry at the end of this, that will bring out any lessons to learn, if I was to say something like that to the Prime Minister, I would say it to his face and not like this.

"He is working his socks off on this, and of course he makes mistakes, he is human, I have made lots of mistakes, Piers, have you ever made any?"

Piers replied: "Never, never made a mistake in my entire life, Archbishop."

The Archbishop quipped: "Well done, Susanna, you managed to keep a straight face!"

Piers continued: "No I have, but I always throw my hands up and say I was wrong, and that's the important thing, particularly for political leaders in pandemics, it would lead to higher trust levels if they admitted to the mistakes they made.

"Most of them seem gripped in a terror of admitting their mistakes.

"What's the biggest mistake you've ever made, Archbishop?"

The Archbishop replied: "Not one I want to tell you!"

"Was it that bad?" asked Piers.

"Yes, it probably was, and there is a very long list of competitor mistakes," answered the Archbishop.

Piers joked: "Let me set the bar for you, because Theresa May, our former Prime Minister, said the wildest thing she had ever done was run through a field of wheat.

"On a scale of obscene behaviour, are you above or below the Theresa May bar?"

The Archbishop laughed: "I am significantly above, I am a long way above, one of the reasons I am a Christian is I know there is a god who forgives."
