Pierce Brosnan And Amir El-Masry To Star In 'Giant'

Pierce Brosnan

Pierce Brosnan and Amir El-Masry are set to star in the upcoming sports drama film 'Giant,' based on the true-life story of British-Yemeni boxer Prince Naseem 'Naz' Hamed. Brosnan will portray Irish-born boxing trainer Brendan Ingle, while El-Masry will take on the role of Naz. The film will be written and directed by Rowan Athale and produced by Mark Lane and Kevin Sampson.

The project, financed by AGC Studios and BondIt Media Capital, is set to begin shooting in Leeds, England in late April. The decision to relocate production from Malta to the U.K. was influenced by the Independent Film Tax Credit announced by Chancellor Jeremy Hunt.

'Giant' follows Hamed's journey from humble beginnings in Sheffield to becoming a world champion boxer under the guidance of Ingle. The film will highlight their partnership, Naz's unorthodox style, and the challenges they faced in a climate of Islamophobia and racism in 80s and 90s Britain.

The film has garnered support from industry veterans such as Sylvester Stallone and Braden Aftergood, who are executive producing. U.K. distribution rights have been secured by True Brit Entertainment, with AGC International handling international sales.

Pierce Brosnan, known for his roles in the James Bond franchise and 'Mamma Mia,' will bring his star power to the project. El-Masry, acclaimed for his performances in 'The Night Manager' and 'The State,' adds depth to the cast with his diverse acting portfolio.

The film's production in the U.K. underscores the impact of tax incentives on the independent film industry, as noted by U.K. culture secretary Lucy Frazer. The collaboration between talent, producers, and government initiatives sets the stage for 'Giant' to captivate audiences with its compelling narrative and powerful performances.
