Pickpocketers are on the prowl in Altrincham town centre

Pickpocketers are on the prowl in Altrincham town centre.

Police say thieves are targeting their victims in the street and managing to steal things from their pockets and bags without them knowing.

Officers from GMP Trafford say there have been at least eight incidents since April, and have now issued a warning following the spate.

They are urging shoppers and visitors to the town to stay on their guard against the pickpockets and make sure they keep an eye on their belongings at all times.

GMP Trafford posted on Facebook: "Altrincham town centre has had a spate of thefts where people have had items taken from their pockets and bags without their knowledge, there have had eight since April 13, and that if people could be aware of their surroundings, their possessions, anyone who is paying attention to them and to report anything suspicious."

Anyone with information relating to the thefts are urged to contact police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
