The photographer who captured an iconic image of a man standing in front of a tank during the Tiananmen Square protests has died.
Charlie Cole took the image the day after hundreds or possibly thousands of people were killed in pro-democracy protests in Beijing, China.
The picture, taken through a telephoto lens from the balcony of a hotel, became the defining image of the protests.
Mr Cole, one of four photographers to capture the scene on June 5, 1989, won the 1990 World Press Photo award. He later said that he had expected the demonstrator would be killed by the tanks.
Mr Cole, who died last week at his home in Bali, Indonesia, aged 64, hid the film in his hotel bathroom to avoid a raid by Chinese security services.
