TV host Phillip Schofield has revealed that he is gay.
The This Morning presenter took to Instagram to announce the having been married for nearly 27 years.
He and partner Steph share two children together but told how he is now ready to 'celebrate and be proud' of his sexuality with their support.
In his shock post, Schofield said his family had 'smothered him with kindness and love' while coming to terms with the news.
He wrote: "With the strength and support of my wife and my daughters, I have been coming to the terms with the fact that I am gay.
"This is something that has caused many heart-breaking conversations at home. I have been married to Steph for nearly 27 years, and we have two beautiful grown-up daughters, Molly and Ruby.
"My family have held me so close: they have tried to cheer me up, to smother me with kindness and love, despite their own confusion.
"Yes, I am feeling pain and confusion, but that comes only from the hurt that I am causing to my family.
"Yet I still can't sleep and there have been some very dark moments."
The announcement came just under two months before he and Steph’s 27th wedding anniversary on March 30. They have two daughters together - Molly and Ruby.
Talking to This Morning co-host and close friend Holly Willoughby on TV today, he heaped praise on his "astonishing" wife and said nobody had ever supported him as she had.
Asked why he decided now was the time to come out, Phil revealed he had been struggling with his sexuality for "quite some time".
Holly immediately threw her support behind her pal, writing on social media that she had “never been more proud of my friend than I am today.
“We’ll be together at 10am on This Morning x”.
She accompanied the post with a smiling snap of her and Schofield.
The pair have hosted This Morning for over a decade and are fan favourites due to their antics.
Often bursting into fits of laughter together live on air, their post-NTA broadcasts have become the stuff of legends.
