Phillip Schofield makes savage dig at Boris as he urges PM to appear on Dancing On Ice 2023

Phillip Schofield made a savage dig at Boris Johnson as he revealed he would make a great Dancing On Ice contestant for 2023.

The presenter is returning to host the ITV skating show this weekend alongside co-host Holly Willoughby and during a group interview, he and Holly joked they'd found the perfect person to sign up to next year's show.

Explaining why he thought Boris would make a great addition, he made a savage dig at the PM, who has come under increasing pressure to resign after he admitted to being at a bring your own booze event at Downing Street during the 2020 lockdown.

Asked about his ideal contestant, Phil told The Mirror and other press: "I think you've got to look for someone who maybe is looking for different career options or different things they can do to fill in extra time, so maybe Boris."

Christopher Dean joked in response: "He has time on his hands," whilst Holly added: "We have great office parties."

Phil then showed everyone his plate of food and drink as he added: "Look at this, and what's more, we have all got just a little bit of cheese," much to the amusement of his fellow stars.

It is not the first - and certainly won't be the last - dig Phil has made at Boris.

In a tense discussion on This Morning earlier this week, he fumed: "Will a grovelling apology be enough? It seems at this stage that the Prime Minister is incapable of being honest."

"He needs to grovel for his life," Holly added.

Later on, in Prime Minister Questions, Boris made an apology to the House, where he had said: "With hindsight I should have sent everyone back inside. I should have found some other way to thank them."

As cameras returned to the This Morning studio, Phil warned the PM that "the vultures are circling" as they chatted with an expert about the apology.

The expert said: "As far as the party is concerned, there’s always been people who are anti-Boris, that happened even when he won a majority. He had two thirds of MP support - that is waning."

*The new series of Dancing On Ice starts at 6.30pm on Sunday 16th December on ITV.
