We certainly don't want to open up our prized $500 bottle of Chateau Margaux when our neighbors Gordy the Guzzler and Suzie the Swiller come over for a game of cornhole. However, that doesn't mean that we can't serve our guests a great bottle of wine.
Grifo's Nero di Troia comes from the Puglian region of Italy, located on the heel of the boot. Nero di Troia, the name of the grape, is rarely grown outside Puglia.
The good thing about Grifo's Nero Di Troia is that a 750-milliliter bottle sells for a mere $9.99. However, there is a significant savings for those who purchase the 3-liter tube in a can for $22.99. Your price per bottle drops to less than $6 by purchasing the 3-liter can. Essentially, this is the same as a boxed wine except the wine bladder is inserted into a metal tube for a fancier presentation.
The wine bottle was great on Day 2. However, the 3-liter version is sealed tight and can last up to three weeks opened.
I couldn't be happier with this affordable Italian red. It was delicious with brie cheese topped with cherry spread, piavi cheese and feta-stuffed olives.
The blueberry and dried cherry flavors were a wonderful companion with Mustard Seed Market's grilled Italian sausage and pasta with vodka sauce, as well as a carryout burger from Darby's in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
This wine loves food as much as I do.
