Believe it or not, training camp is just two months away for the Las Vegas Raiders. But before we get there, the Raiders will conduct a few mini-camp practices and several sessions of OTAs before going to camp in July.
So going into the summer, what position is expected to see the most competition? That answer seems pretty clear as the right tackle job is certainly up for grabs.
In a recent article by Ben Linsey of Pro Football Focus, he wrote about every team’s most exciting training camp battle. For the Raiders, that was none other than right tackle. Here is a snippet of his thoughts on the battle that will happen on the right side of the offensive line for the Raiders:
“The projected starting lineup of Alex Leatherwood at right guard and Brandon Parker at right tackle is the same duo that the Raiders finished the season with. Even if Leatherwood takes an expected step forward in his second season out of Alabama, that should be a concern.
Leatherwood should have an opportunity to compete for the starting right tackle job, as well. He earned a 30.7 PFF grade while starting the first four games at right tackle in 2021. Jermaine Eluemunor, John Simpson and Dylan Parham will also be in the mix for starting jobs.”
The expectation is that Leatherwood will likely stay at right guard with Parker and Eluemunor competing for the right tackle spot. However, don’t forget about Denzelle Good, who also has experience playing at right tackle.
The Raiders might also decide to insert Parham at guard, allowing Leatherwood to enter the right tackle competition. But no matter what happens, look for the Raiders to have an open competition for the best five offensive linemen during camp.
