PFA Awards postponed following Premier League coronavirus suspension

This season's PFA awards have been postponed with the Premier League unaware of when the season will conclude.

The outbreak of coronavirus has seen England's top four divisions come to a stand still.

It has seen the annual awards that recognises the Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year postponed until a later date.

Liverpool, who had looked set to win the title in record breaking fashion, are aiming to see their player win the Player of the Year award for a third straight year following successes for Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

A statement from the PFA said: "In light of the unprecedented crisis the UK is facing around the COVID-19 virus it has been decided to postpone this year’s PFA Awards - originally scheduled for Sunday 26th April 2020.

"This crisis extends far beyond the world of football and we must take steps in accordance with the welfare of the wider general public.

"The current situation does not lend itself to mass gatherings of this nature and given the uncertainty of when the current season might end and the potential threats to the health of our members and guests the event is not feasible at this time.

"We hope that by making this early decision it provides clarity moving forward and we hope to be in a position to reschedule the event later in the year."

On Monday the National League followed the lead of the top four divisions by suspending games for an indefinite period of time.

Certain managers had been particularly angry that they had been forced to play games despite the majority of sports in the UK taking precautionary measures.

A decision is also imminent from UEFA as they look to outline plans for Euro 2020, Champions League and Europa League.
