Peyton Manning, Christian McCaffrey Tweak Adam Schefter Over Seahawks QB Situation

Even NFL insiders can have an off night.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is often first to report breaking stories in the NFL, so fans and pundits are surprised when he doesn’t have the goods in an informational sense.

That was the case Monday night.

The Seahawks kept everyone guessing—Schefter included—when it came to their quarterback situation before their victory over the Eagles, as both Geno Smith and Drew Lock were deemed active, but Seattle declined to reveal that Lock was starting until roughly 10 minutes before kickoff. Presumably, the secret was kept in the name of competitive advantage.

During the latest ManningCast, Peyton Manning and 49ers tailback Christian McCaffrey couldn’t believe Schefter didn’t break the QB news, even playfully tweaking the ESPN reporter.

Manning was incredulous that Schefter didn’t have the news during the Monday Night Football pregame show. He also was amazed that Seahawks coach Pete Carroll managed to keep the decision a secret, citing the time when Schefter learned Manning was going to get cut by the Colts before even Manning himself knew.

With perfect timing, McCaffrey chimed in, blaming Schefter for the Seahawks’ false start penalty on their first offensive play.
