Peter Lawwell set to join SPFL board as Celtic chief's return to be rubber stamped

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell will return to the SPFL board for 2020/21 while St Johnstone chairman Steve Brown is also set to be added to the SPFL management team.

They will join Hamilton's Les Gray as representatives of the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers' Stewart Robertson will step down with the Ibrox MD doing so as part of a gentleman's agreement that sees Glasgow's big two swap positions every year.

Motherwell's Alan Burrows departed after deciding to let others get involved.

He Tweeted: "I have thought long and hard about it. I'm happy to stand back and let others get involved.

"The board needs a degree of continuity, particularly with the challenges of Covid-19 still far from over, and I am glad some of my colleagues have once again put themselves forward for re-election."

The BBC report that Monday's AGM will see the changes rubber stamped as well as a decision on who represents the Championship with Ross McArthur (Dunfermline Athletic), Ewen Cameron (Alloa Athletic) and Ross Morrison (Inverness CT) competing for two spots.

Gordon Thomson of Clyde and Brechin City's Ken Ferguson stand for Leagues One and Two.

Along with those representing clubs, the board will also feature chairman Murdoch MacLennan, non-executive director Karyn McCluskey and chief executive Neil Doncaster.

The board have been involved in some controversial decisions in recent months after the coronavirus pandemic put paid to the 2019/20 season with eight games still to play.
