Peter Lawwell Celtic role explained as fan group detail 'governance concerns' to Parkhead board

The Celtic Trust have demanded answers over any Peter Lawwell involvement in the Parkhead boardroom in the wake of Dom McKay's departure.

They initially wrote to the Celtic hierarchy back in August with wide-ranging concerns over the running of the club.

But with the McKay now gone, they want clarity on any current role after his successors short-lived stint in the hot seat as they state they will continue to push for answers.

A letter sent to the board last month queried: "Mr Lawwell resigned from most but not all of his Celtic directorships.

"I’d be grateful if you could confirm whether Mr Lawwell has any ongoing executive responsibilities as the announcement of 29 January was not clear in this regard."

In a response from new acting chief executive Michael Nicholson he confirmed the involvement of Lawwell after he stepped down from his position at the Premiership side after 17 trophy-laden years.

Nicholson stated: "Mr Lawwell remains a director of The Celtic Football and Athletic Company Limited, providing support on matters relating to European football and continuing his term as a member of the Executive Board of the European Club Association, to which he was appointed before his retirement as a director of the Company."

Following the reply on September 6, which was published by the fan group following the board room overhaul, they have vowed to return to the club with questions over the changes.

A statement added: "We continue to have concerns about the standard of corporate governance at Celtic PLC and will continue to raise these issues with the board and with other shareholders and advisers."

McKay left his role at Celtic Park just 10 weeks after taking the reins from Lawwell, who had acted as chief executive for 17 years in Glasgow's east end.

Nicholson has stepped into the role on a temporary basis while the club hunt for a successor to the former Scottish Rugby supremo.
