Peter Grant in cryptic Eddie Howe Celtic tease as he swerves loaded Parkhead return enquiry

New Dunfermline boss Peter Grant refused to confirm or deny he'd been offered the chance to be assistant to Eddie Howe at Celtic.

It was rumoured that the former Parkhead star would come in to work with the Englishman, who he knows from their time together at Bournemouth.

Grant was appointed Dunfermline boss this week, but wasn't keen to discuss whether he'd been approached.

He said at his presentation: "That's because I'm a Celtic supporter and played with Celtic.

"Eddie was a young player when I was at Bournemouth so there's been a lot in that but this was the only job I wanted.

"Out of the jobs that have been available this summer this is the one I wanted and I was offered it.

"I wanted to stay a manager, that's the biggest thing. Then it's my fault if it goes wrong.

"Sometimes when you're a number two you have opinions but as the manager the chop falls on you if you're not doing your job right.

"I wanted that responsibility."

Grant was then pressed over whether he had actually been offered the role at Celtic.

He replied: "You leave Celtic but Celtic never leaves you.

"I was brought up a Celtic supporter, I was brought up a Celtic player.

"But I'm here and I think anybody that's worked with me knows Dunfermline will get the same commitment I gave Celtic at all times.

"Eddie's a pal of mine and that's as much as I'll say.

"This is not about Celtic, this is about Dunfermline."
