Peter Crouch using lifesize cardboard cut outs to ward off burglars at his £4.5m mansion

Peter Crouch is using a lifesize cardboard cut-out of himself to ward off burglars at his mansion in Cheshire.

The 6ft 7' ex-Liverpool and Tottenham striker has been targeted by thieves on more than one occasion.

Crouch took the 2D model from the set of his new BBC show, Save Our Summer, and has left it in the living room to make it look as if he's on the lookout.

The models, nicknamed Two Meter Peters, were measures put in place to ensure social distancing on set.

Crouch told The Sun : “I’ve got mine in the top bedroom. We threw it in there when it first came.

"And I walked down to the bottom of the garden, turned around and thought: ‘Who’s that in my bedroom? What’s going on here?’

“But now I’ve left it in there because security wise, if anyone comes in it is perfect.”

The 42-capped England striker lives in his £4.5m pad with model wife Abbey Clancy and their three children.

The family have been the victims of theft in the past with Crouch's £100,000 Aston Martin stolen from his house in upmarket Alderley Edge in 2006.

Five years later the family then saw their current home raided by burglars who stole their kids’ Christmas presents.

Crouch’s new TV show on the Beeb begins this Saturday and will see him tackling several challenges including sky diving and tight rope walking.

The 39-year-old is approaching a year away from football after he retired back in July last year.

Burnley were his last club but his two decade-long career saw him play for 11 different clubs and score 205 times.
