Peter Crouch receives lucrative offer from China to continue playing career

Peter Crouch has had a lucrative offer from China to continue his playing career in the Far East.

Former England striker Crouch, 38, is now a free agent and did not return to pre-season training with Burnley on Tuesday as he decides on his future.

Burnley are keen to re-sign Crouch on a one-year contract even though he was only a bit-part player at the end of last season after a January move from Stoke.

But there is also interest from China as Crouch would be a big-name signing for the Super League, if he wants one final swansong and the potential of a bumper last contract.

Crouch has also had offers to move into the media on the back of his successful BBC podcast with both Radio 5 Live and talkSPORT both keen should he decide to retire.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche is keen to keep Crouch because of his influence in the dressing room as well as being a different option on the pitch.

Crouch only made six appearances for Burnley last season, all of which came from the bench, and he failed to score for what would have been his seventh different club in the Premier League.

The forward's only previous spell playing club football outside of England came when he joined Swedish second division side IFK Hassleholm on loan from Tottenham in 2000.

Crouch - who won 42 England caps, scoring 22 goals - is one of only 28 players to have scored 100 Premier League goals, having become the oldest player to bring up the landmark figure when netting for Stoke in a 1-1 draw with Everton in February 2017.
