Peter Andre is said to be on the mend after a mystery illness forced him to miss several performances of Grease in the West End.

The Mysterious Girl singer, 44, who plays the duel role of Vince Fontaine and Teen Angel in the musical, has been absent for four consecutive nights, leaving fans devastated.

Understudy Darren Bennett instead took over the role, with no explanation for Andre’s no-show given by the theatre.

“We came to see you in Grease yesterday, where were you??” one crest-fallen theatre goer tweeted Andre, followed by three sad face emojis.

“Enjoyed @GREASEWestEnd tonight with I think a number of understudies. Lots of energy. I’d have loved to see Peter Andre though!” remarked a second.

It has now been revealed that the dad-of-four has been unwell with an unspecified ailment.

A source told The Sun: “Pete was raging he couldn’t go to work and was devastated he had to miss his shows.

“He has been really poorly - he would never pull out of anything otherwise, he hates letting people down and hates being ill.

“He’s so excited to go back tonight - he will definitely be on stage tonight.”

The Standard contacted a representative for Andre who confirmed he had been unwell, but said he is now “fine” and has “returned to work”.

Grease has been met with mixed reviews since opening on May 17.

Elsewhere, the former I’m A Celebrity star was recently named the face of Beyond Meat’s “BBQ Beyond” campaign.

He posed with vegan sausages and burgers at the launch, offering tips on how people can create, cook and host a summer BBQ using plant-based products.
