Peter Andre denies issuing ban on hugs and selfies over coronavirus fears

Singer Peter Andre has laughed off claims that he banned fans from touching him or taking selfies with him at an event at the weekend over coronavirus fears.

He said he was shocked to learn the signs had been posted at a question and answer event in Southampton, Hampshire, urging fans not to take selfies or have physical contact with him.

He tweeted: "OK this must be a wind up because I hugged everyone I met."

"People were saying to me that they had been told not to touch me and that there were signs.  thought they were joking. Brilliant.

“I am now officially a diva without being a diva.

“On a serious note though don’t touch me.”

He had begun trending on Twitter as a result of the sign, with some fans taking it on face value.

But clearly he had no knowledge or involvement in the sign being place around the venue.

A picture of a sign, apparently posted at Southampton Central Hall at the An Evening With Peter Andre event, was shared on Twitter, reading: "Due to recent cases of the coronavirus please DO NOT have any physical contact with Peter Andre.

"Please DO NOT take any selfies with Peter Andre.

"Apologies for any inconvenience," the sign added.

Twitter users mocked the singer, without checking whether or not it was genuine.

Meanwhile, TV presenter Lorraine Kelly said her daughter Rosie Smith, 24, is self-isolating in Singapore amid fears about the Covid-19 virus.

TV presenter Lorraine Kelly told ITV’s Good Morning Britain presenters Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid that her husband was en route to see their daughter.

She said: "My husband has just sent me some pictures from Heathrow, he’s on his way to see Rosie in Singapore. It’s dead, absolutely dead, there’s nothing there.

"When he went to check in he said ‘Are you busy?’ and they just laughed.

"My daughter is sort of self-isolated because she’s got a bit of a cold."
