Pete Hegseth pays tribute to two US troops killed in Iran attack

  • US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has paid tribute to two US service members who were killed in the war with Iran Friday while a third is missing in action.
  • The US military said Saturday that two troops were killed and one was missing in Jordan following an Iranian attack on a base in Jordan, bringing the total U.S. service member deaths to 16 since the conflict began.
  • “Godspeed, heroes,” Hegseth wrote on X while reposting a news release about the service member deaths. “Their sacrifice only stiffens our resolve,” he added.
  • This incident comes as the US and Iran have intensified their attacks against each other, with the US launching a seventh straight night of strikes following the collapse of an interim ceasefire deal last week.
  • In apparent retaliation for U.S. attacks on its infrastructure, Iran reportedly targeted Saudi Arabia, other U.S. Gulf allies, and Jordan on Saturday. Iran's supreme leader issued a warning that Washington would "pay for seeking to incite war.”
