Pet shop chain Jollyes is looking to expand
(Picture: Jollyes)Jollyes is looking to open 20 new branches over the next 18 months, the pet store chain said as it revealed higher sales.
The firm that was founded in Enfield in 1971 and today has 67 shops, is among retailers in the sector to have seen high demand for products recently.
It pointed to data from the Pet Food Manufacturers Association that said 3.2 million households have acquired a pet since the start of the pandemic.
Jollyes said in the first quarter to August 29 comparable sales were 21% higher than the same period in 2019.
In the year to May revenue improved 13% to £77 million, and the company has reported increased sales of food and accessories.
Jollyes wants to open new stores through both the targeted acquisition of smaller pet retailers and taking on new leases.
The company is also planning new investment in its product ranges and marketing. Some 150 jobs are expected to be created via the expansion.
