Perthshire Olympic curling champion Eve Muirhead receives double honours at Windsor Castle ceremony

Perthshire curling gold medallist Eve Muirhead this week received her OBE and MBE in recognition of her services to the sport.

The Blair Atholl skip had both honours conferred on her by the Prince of Wales at the investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on Wednesday.

Olympic champion team-mate Mili Smith, of Guildtown, was also awarded a MBE.

It was announced last week the pair were to have the honours bestowed upon them as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Ms Muirhead was awarded the MBE in the 2020 Birthday Honours for services to curling.

Speaking after the news last week, she said it was “an absolute delight” to now be awarded the OBE.

The 32-year-old earned sporting legendary status earlier this year by leading Team GB to gold at the Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Her season also included triumphs at the European Championships and World Mixed Championships.

The OBE honour is the cherry on the cake and she said: “It’s an absolute delight to be awarded an OBE. This is something that is really, really special.

“Of course, I would not have been able to do this without my team-mates.

“All together we got that gold medal at the Olympic Games.

“It has been an unbelievable journey.”

A host of other famous faces were being honoured by Prince Charles, including Sir David Attenborough who was appointed a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael And St George for services to TV broadcasting and to conservation.
