Perth Prison dubbed a 'hotspot of violence' by region's police

Perth Prison has been dubbed a “hotspot for violence”.

That is according to the latest quarterly report from police report for Perth and Kinross.

The April 1 to June 30 review was presented to Perth and Kinross Council ’s housing and communities committee on September 8.

The statement by chief superintendent Phil Davison said: “HMP Perth continues to be a hotspot for violence, however, we continue to work with the management to identify preventions and interventions to impact on such violence along with assessing the impact of changes to our operating model allowing greater engagement with HMP Perth.”

A spokesman for the Scottish Prison Service told the Perthshire Advertiser it takes violence against prisoners or staff “very seriously.”

He said: “The violence is a concern across the prison estate.

“Many of these individuals are in prison because of violent behaviour.”

The SPS spokesman added: “We want a place that is safe for people to live in and work in.

“We will work with the police to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.”
