Person taken to hospital after West Road crash which led to rush-hour delays in Newcastle

One person has been taken to hospital after a crash in Newcastle.

Emergency crews attended the incident on West Road following reports shortly before 7am this morning (May 30). One person was found injured at the scene and was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary for further treatment.

Nobody else appears to have been injured in the collision and the casualty sustained what are believed to be minor injuries.

West Road was closed as emergency crews assessed the situation which led to some disruption on the roads for early morning commuters.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “Shortly before 7am today (Monday), we received a report of a collision on West Road.

“Emergency crews attended the scene and one person was transported to hospital with what was believed to be minor injuries.”

A spokesman for North East Ambulance Service added: “We were called at 6:48am to a road traffic collision on West Road. We dispatched a double crewed ambulance and transported one patient to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.”

West Road reopened to drivers again at approximately 7.35am.
