A person has been hit by a train between Edinburgh and Newcraighall this afternoon. Trains were cancelled following the incident as emergency crews rushed to the scene around 2.50pm on Saturday.
Both ScotRail and LNER advised customers of a delay and cancellations on social media. Replacement buses have been offered to travellers.
ScotRail is currently working to get trains and staff back into position after emergency services confirmed it was safe to run trains shortly after 3pm.
They tweeted: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Edinburgh and Newcraighall all lines are closed. Train services between Edinburgh and North Berwick will be suspended."
Later adding: "The emergency services have declared it safe to run our trains between Edinburgh and Tweedbank/ North Berwick. Disruption to services may still be ongoing until our staff and trains are back in position."
LNER also cancelled trains following the incident but have now added additional stops to their now running services to minimise disruption.
The railway firm posted on Twitter to warn travellers of cancellations. They said: "Due to a person being hit by a train 16:00 #KingsCross to #Edinburgh due 20:25 will be cancelled. Customers are advised to travel on next available LNER service."
British Transport Police has been contacted for comment.
