Person dies after being hit by train near Coatbridge

A person has died after being hit by a train in North Lanarkshire.

British Transport Police (BTP) were called to the train line near Whifflet station at 5.43pm after reports of a casualty on the line.

Paramedics also raced to the scene but the person was pronounced dead on arrvial.

BTP confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

Officers are working to identify the person and contact their next of kin.

A BTP spokesman told the Record: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Whifflet railway station at 5.34pm yesterday following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and officers are working to identify the deceased and notify their next of kin."
