Person dies after being hit by train between Lenzie and Bishopbriggs

A person has tragically died after being struck by a train between Lenzie and Bishopbriggs this morning.

Emergency services were called to the incident around 8am following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Paramedics attended but the person sadly could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers from the British Transport Police are currently working to identify the victim.

Enquiries into the full circumstances surrounding the death remain ongoing as travel diversions are currently in place.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to the line near Bishopbriggs at 7.59am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are currently working to identify the deceased and establish the full circumstances behind their death."

ScotRail has various replacement buses on as the line between Lenzie and Bishopbriggs remains closed.

Services between Edinburgh and Glasgow via Falkirk High will be diverted via Cumbernauld.
