Perplexity Adds Claude 4.1 Opus Thinking and Teases New “Study” Mode

Perplexity has rolled out Claude 4.1 Opus Thinking for its Max subscribers, adding another powerful AI model to its already extensive selection. The update was quietly announced in a tweet that simply stated: “Claude Opus 4.1 Thinking is now available for Max subscribers. Enjoy.”

With this, Perplexity Max users can now choose from a range of top-tier models, including GPT-4.1, Claude 4.0 Sonnet, Gemini 2.5 Pro, and Grok 4. The addition of Claude 4.1 Opus Thinking brings deeper reasoning and enhanced instruction-following capabilities.

Study Mode Coming Soon

Along with that, it also seems like the AI giant is working on a new feature for students called Study Mode. The feature was first spotted by Seth Saler and later highlighted by TestingCatalog. The leaked image shows a description that says “ask questions and learn,” likely offering a structured learning experience instead of one-off answers.

While the details around the upcoming study mode are still quite limited, the official UI preview hints at a dedicated button and a new flow for educational queries. Besides, it’s expected to arrive in September.

However, this is not surprising. As Perplexity’s biggest rival, ChatGPT, recently got a Study Mode feature too, which, instead of giving direct answers, walks students through problems using interactive prompts.

Apart from that, Perplexity is also scaling up its infrastructure. Recently, CEO Aravind Srinivas announced that the company has acquired Invisible Technologies, a team known for its backend work with Uber and Cloud Kitchens. The move is expected to strengthen Perplexity’s Comet infrastructure.

These updates come shortly after the launch of Comet Shortcuts, a feature that allows you to automate browser tasks using natural language. It allows you to trigger commands like submitting forms or scraping websites directly through a prompt. Now, with the latest acquisition, one thing is clear: Perplexity is investing heavily in user-controlled automation.

That’s all about Perplexity for now. But if you want the next update delivered straight to your phone, then join our WhatsApp channel where, along with all the latest tech and AI news, we also share reviews, analysis, and more.
