Pep Guardiola rues Man City's missed chances despite paying 'biggest compliment' to PSG performance

Pep Guardiola has rued Man City's wastefulness in front of goal despite paying his 'biggest compliments' towards his players for their performance against PSG.

Despite registering three times the amount of shots on goal than their opponents, City ended up losing 2-0 at the Parc des Princes thanks to goals from Idrissa Gana Gueye and Lionel Messi.

The result left them third in the group behind their opponents and Club Brugge but Guardiola insists he was satisfied with his team's performance.

"In the end we were better," Guardiola told BT Sport.

"It was a good performance and we did everything but could not score.

"We defended well, they defended deep and, of course, their counter-attacking is always dangerous with the quality they have and, unfortunately, we could not control them from scoring but it is football.

"I have nothing to say but my biggest compliments to the team."

City headed into the clash on the back of an impressive 1-0 win at Chelsea but their wastefulness in front of goal prevented them from backing it up in the French capital.

Bernardo Silva inexplicably missed an open goal from six yards out but Guardiola felt his side should have converted other chances as well.

"In these kinds of games, of course," Guardiola added when asked whether they were made to pay for missed chances.

"But we didn't just have this one. In the second half we had many [chances] but [PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi] Donnarumma made good saves.

"The team was there, just like at Stamford Bridge. The team is alive but it is a pity because we play to win.

"They don't need much to score goals and they did it."
