Pep Guardiola hints at Man City injury boosts for West Ham fixture

Pep Guardiola indicated that some Manchester City players will return from injury against West Ham.

Fernandinho became the sixth first team star to be sidelined when he was ruled out after pulling up during the Champions League win over Porto. However, Kevin De Bruyne and Aymeric Laporte began to train again with the team on Thursday while Nathan Ake's absence from that game with niggles in his groin was not seen as a major issue.

Guardiola was coy about how many of the three will be available for the Saturday lunchtime clash but did say that some of them will be involved in the game.

"Some of them will be involved, some of them not," he said. "You will know it tomorrow."

Gabriel Jesus and Benjamin Mendy remain injured. Jesus has not played since the first match of the season against Wolves but has started training again, while Mendy suffered a problem during the international break and is not expected to be back before the middle of November at the earliest.

Fernandinho also remains out but there is better news on his injury.

An initial diagnosis was four to six weeks, but Guardiola suggested that the latest tests had indicated a more favourable outcome for the team with the veteran midfielder now expected to return sooner.

Guardiola added: "The injury is tough but the results yesterday are a little bit more optimistic so I think he will be out for shorter than one month so it is good. He is tough."
