Missing Aberdeen man who travelled to London during lockdown traced after public appeal

A missing man who Police had warned the public not to approach has been found safe and well.

Derek Robertson travelled to London by train during the coronavirus lockdown and an appeal was launched to trace him.

The 55-year-old arrived at Kings Cross Station in the UK capital after travelling from Aberdeen via Edinburgh at around 2.20pm on Tuesday, April 28.

He was later spotted at Victoria Station in London at around 4pm on Thursday, April 30.

Police Scotland have now thanked members of the public for their assistance.

A statement reads: "Police Scotland can confirm that Derek Robertson (55) who had been reported missing from Aberdeen has been traced safe and well in London.

"The public are thanked for their assistance."

He had been described as white, around 5ft 4ins, large build, with grey balding hair and speaks with a Scottish accent.

Derek was wearing a black and white baseball cap, a short black jacket, white top with black sleeves, brown tracksuit bottoms and brown and red trainers when he was last seen.

Detective Inspector Barry Stewart, of Aberdeen Queen Street Police Station, said as he launched the online appeal earlier today: “Members of the public are asked not to approach Mr Robertson, however Police Scotland would like to reassure people that considerate and extensive efforts are being put into locating him.

“Enquiries are currently focused in the London area and we are working with our colleagues from the Metropolitan police as part of this investigation.”
