A video shared to TikTok last week has made people question how they calculate their birthdays.
The video shared to TikTok by 20-year old Keeley Smith, has left people mind-blown with a very strange birthday revelation. She simply shared her thoughts on the ageing process and left online users confused with one simple sentence. The video has since had more than three million views as people begin to have an ‘existential crisis’.

In a short five second clip, she captioned the video: “Me realising that whatever age you turn on your birthday is what you have completed not what you're starting." She realised that when you turn 20 it's because you have lived for 20 years, not because you are starting your 20th year. Babies have their age measured in months before turning one so your age is lived age plus however many months not the year you are living.
The video was captioned: "Anyone else confused ???" With nearly 2000 captions on TikTok currently, it’s safe to say that it has been a confusing talking point.
One baffled TikTok user commented: “ MY BRAIN JUST BUFFERED [crying emoji]”. With another adding: “Oh my god this is giving me an existential crisis”.
One person said: “omg bc your first birthday was a year AFTER you’ve been alive but like you’re still one year until you’ve hit a complete 2 years.. my brain omg”.
For some people however, this revelation wasn't as shocking, with someone saying: “Uh...is this not common sense? that's what...ageing is?”. While another added: “In India that’s actually how they count years, we say we completed one and started the other so there everyone goes by a year older than here!"
