People could be fined £5,000 for entering this crime-ridden house

Police have shut down a house in St Helens after a spate of crime and anti-social behaviour.

The house at 2 Grasmere Close in the town was hit with a full closure order from St Helens community policing team, meaning no one can enter the address unless they are authorised by Merseyside Police.

The order comes following reports of "persistent anti-social, disorderly, offensive and criminal behaviour" and it will remain in place until February 28 next year. Anyone who tries to enter the property during this time could face up to six months in prison or a fine of up to £5,000.

A police spokesperson said: "It is an offence under section 86 of the anti-social behaviour crime and policing act 2014 to without reasonable excuse remain on or enter the premises in contravention of a closure order or obstruct an authorised person either entering the premises or doing anything necessary to secure the premises against entry.

"A person who commits an offence under Section 86 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014, is liable to up to 6 months imprisonment or a fine of up to £5000 (or both).

"St Helens Community Policing team continue to take persistent nuisance anti-social behaviour seriously and will utilise all, if required, the legislation at our disposal to do so."
