People aren't happy about plans for another new bar in this Merseyside area

Another new bar is set to open in a residential area - despite complaints from people living nearby that there are 'enough already'.

Plans submitted to Sefton Council would see the former retail unit at 79 Coronation Road, Crosby , turned into a drinking establishment.

The other half of the semi-detached property is Corkscrew wine bar, and there are also a number of other bars and restaurants in close proximity.

In February, Mustard & Co, a stone's throw away on College Avenue, was refused a licence to stay open until 10pm - after people living nearby voiced concerns that their 'paths would be used as toilets'.

Later, however, some people living in the area have slammed the local authority's decision, with hundreds signing a petition for plans to go ahead.

The empty unit on Coronation Road is currently being refurbished in anticipation of opening as a bar.

There are no concerns from police, environmental health or highways officers. However, the council has received eight letters of objection from people who live along the road, as well as a petition against the plans - signed by 37 people.

Residents say there are already 'multiple' bars in the area, as well as having concerns about an increase in traffic, noise, obstruction and potentially antisocial behaviour.

Merseyside Police , however, say they have 'no substantive concerns' that this new bar would cause additional crime or nuisance.

Jay Woodcock said: "Do what the residents want, I say."

Michael Hill asked: "Why not open at Hall Road instead? Everyone gets diverted there but there's nothing to do there."

However, some people are in favour of the new bar.

Bev Murphy said: "The Corkscrew has no noise complaints and this is next door so I'm sure it'll be the same. Great idea."

Sira Camden added: "People just want to make a living and it will do great, I'm sure."

Sefton Council's Planning Committee is set to approve the plans at its meeting on Wednesday (June 5).
