People are complaining about a mysterious stink wafting across Manchester

Complaints have been made about a mysterious pong that is causing a whiff across Manchester. In a message issued this evening (November 3), the Environment Agency said it has received odour complaints from people in the city.

It is believed the smell is coming from a 'permitted waste site' in Manchester. Further details about the site are yet to be confirmed.

The Environment Agency says it is monitoring the situation to make sure rules are being followed regarding waste. A spokesperson for Environment Agency North West wrote on Twitter : "The Environment Agency is aware of odour complaints from a permitted waste site in Manchester.

"We continue to regulate the site to ensure it's compliant with its environmental permit and are monitoring the site as odorous waste is removed."

It is not currently known how long the issue has led to complaints, or when the problem began.

Waste sites have to follow strict regulations to prevent odour issues. The Environment Agency has been approached for further information about the smell in Manchester.
