Pensioner thanks quick-thinking stranger for using Carling can to save his car

A pensioner has thanked the quick thinking stranger who used a beer can to stop his car from rolling off after he left off his handbrake.

Tony Ingram came back to his car to find a Carling can wedged under the front wheel of his Kia Picanto.

The 72-year-old said he had been shopping with his family at Junction One retail park in Bidston before he decided to head back to the car.

However after getting in his car he spotted a note had been left on his windscreen.

The note read: "Hand brake off rolled forward can of beer under front passenger wheel."

Tony, from Leasowe, said to the ECHO : "I just wanted to say thanks to whoever left the can of beer under my car to stop it rolling off.

"I am assuming it was a woman because I doubt a man would want to give away a free can."

Tony, now retired, said that he had just come back from a holiday in Greece, which may be the reason for his forgetfullness.

He said: "I know its not a long haul flight but I think I was suffering from a bit of jetlag and think that is why I left the handbrake off."

Following the incident, on June 10, Tony posted a note on social media.

It read: "Just a chance that the good Samaritan who saved my car from possibly receiving a prang outside Pure gym in Bidston this afternoon is a FB user.

"I failed miserably to engage my parking brake and walked off to shop.

"The hero of this tale noticed my car moving and brilliantly used a can of lager as a wedge under the front wheel thus stopping it from rolling forward.

"When I returned to my car the attached message was on the windscreen to inform me of the incident and allow me to remove the said can of lager from exploding as I drove off.

"I owe the person involved a big thanks and also a pint of lager."

Tony added: "It would be great to able to say thanks in person. My car could have caused some damage so I am grateful to whoever it was."
