Pensioner robbed of her lockdown medication as she left Govan chemist

A thug who robbed a pensioner of her lockdown medication has been jailed for 33 months.

James Doran, 45, pounced on Isobel Ferguson, 67, near a chemist in Glasgow’s Govan in March this year.

Brave Miss Ferguson struggled as 11 prescriptions were snatched from her grasp amid Doran’s claims they were his.

A frightened Miss Ferguson was left bruised as Doran then fled.

Doran pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to robbing Miss Ferguson to her injury.

Prosecutor Mark Allan today told how Miss Ferguson had collected vast sums of medication from the chemist in preparation for lockdown.

Doran confronted the OAP from behind outside the pharmacy.

Mr Allan added: “There was a struggle and he shouted ‘They’re mine’ in an aggressive manner.

“He frightened her, causing her to release her grasp.”

Doran, also of Govan, fled the scene and Miss Ferguson went back to the chemist to report the matter.

Mr Allan said: “She now does not collect her prescription at the chemist and has them delivered as a result of this.”

Des Ziolo, defending, told the court Doran had no recollection of the incident due to a street valium addiction.

He added: “Mr Doran is disgusted by his actions and is ashamed of himself.

“He is embarrassed for his own mother who is the same age as Mrs Ferguson.”
